Corbain Lau was born aboard the TFS-Tamerlane in the middle of a warp jump, leading to him gaining the dreaded epithet 'warp baby', which followed him from kindergarden through to academy prep. His deep-seated resentment to that fact has led him to cultivate an almost impossibly optimistic disposition, while his inner thoughts are left only to himself and to the counselor aboard the ship under his command.
